Golden K exceeds membership goal
FOR THE DAILY SOUTHERNER
Golden K President Lee Hall set a goal of 12 new members for the Kiwanis year that started last Oct. 1 and ends this Sept. 30.
This significant goal was surpassed with the induction of Jack Cutler This brings the total membership for the club to 49. A first. It seems that 50 will be the magic number which we are expecting to reach before the end of this administrative year.
The club was chartered in December 1990 with 25 members.
Charles Hill worked with Col. Tom Page and Brooks Webb, former members of the other Tarboro Kiwanis club, to build this Golden K. With teamwork the club became a reality.
Former Kiwanis Gov. Les Garner from Greenville assisted from time to time.
This club has over 20 projects that different members choose to work on such as Terrific Kids. The annual Tarboro Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and Supper is jointly sponsored by the Tarboro Kiwanis and the Tarboro Golden K Kiwanis clubs.
A program sponsored by the Golden K is the monthly flag-raising ceremony at the Edgecombe County veterans memorial on the Tarboro Town Common that was initiated by Col J. W. Wood and Joel Bourne. This has been a very popular program for deceased Edgecombe County veterans.
Support for this has grown with assistance from several others such as the Junior Air Force ROTC at Tarboro High School.
Before Cutler left the meeting he was asking how he could volunteer for a program. This is the kind of enthusiasm that has caused this club to grow and be a lot of fun for these retired men of this community.
