ABB celebrates 30 years
FOR THE DAILY SOUTHERNER
ABB in Pinetops celebrated its 30th anniversary on April 12, after the former Westinghouse business relocated to Pinetops from Sharon, Pa, in 1978.
In honor of the occasion, ABB hosted an open house and offered plant tours to local community members and employees’ families.
Volunteers were stationed at display tables in each department to answer any questions the attendees may have about the products or manufacturing processes.
Abram’s Catering and Amusements provided lunch, games, rides, and concessions that afternoon for retirees, employees, and their families to enjoy. Present among the invited guests were Dave Wright, the facility’s first plant manager and Jim Davis, the first human resources manager.
Jon Rennie, current General Manager of the Pinetops facility commented, “It is certainly exciting to be a part of this significant milestone. It's also important to realize we would not be here today if it were not for the hard work of our current and former employees, as well as our retirees. Their efforts, as well as the support of their families, have allowed us to be so successful in this industry over the past thirty years.”
The anniversary celebration was deemed a success and the business is looking forward to another prosperous thirty years.
